Spanner Upgrade for MS Office 97 Excel & MS Office 2000 Excel

This upgrade is free and is for users of Spanner versions 4.0 through 4.03, single user and site license versions. If you have a version prior to 4.0 please contact us for upgrade information.

This upgrade will load properly into Excel for Office 97 or Excel for MS Office 2000, however, it will not work with Excel 3.0 or 4.0 (it does work with Excel 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and Excel for Office 95).

The upgrade file is SPAN12.xla which is a replacement for the SPAN12.xla file which came with your orignially purchased license for Spanner. The other components of Spanner (SPAN12.lsp, SPAN12.dcl and SPANNER.dat, which are used in AutoCAD) have not been changed and do not need to be upgraded.

To install the upgrade:

  1. Download the upgrade file, SPAN12.xla, and save it to your MS Office 97 or & MS Office 2000 Excel XLSTART directory.
  2. Delete your old SPAN12.xla file (keep a copy on your original Spanner disk, for emergencies).
  3. Launch Excel, Spanner will be loaded automatically. You may have to answer "Enable Macros" if Excel asks as Spanner is loading.
  4. The upgrade is now installed, it works just as it did before. Spanner may become confused as to which menu the "Create File for AutoCAD" command should be on (it depends on which version of Excel is being used). So, if it isn't on the "DATA" menu, look around at the others.

Use your RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON to click on the download link and choose 'Save target as' or 'Save link as' from the little pop-up menu, then make sure it will save using the name span12.xla (with the correct extension, .xla) before you click OK.

Download Upgrade Now. (span12.xla, 35k, it won't take long).

Also, Note that this is not a zip or otherwise compressed file and does not need to be uncompressed.

Helpful Hints:

  1. Make sure your browser saves the downloaded file to disk, rather than loading it directly into Excel.
  2. Be sure you are saving the downloaded file to your new MS Office 97/2000 XLSTART directory and not an old directory from a previous version of Excel.
  3. Depending on how MS Office 97/2000 was installed on your computer, the XLSTART directory may be located multiple levels below your main Office 97/2000 directory, you may have to look around a bit.
  4. If you don't want Spanner to be loaded each time you use Excel, put the downloaded file in any directory except XLSTART (be sure to delete your old copy of SPAN12.xla). You will have to load it manually each time you want to use Spanner by using the Open command on Excel's File menu and selecting the SPAN12.xla file.
